Ukrainian-born Dinara Klinton studied in Moscow and at the Royal College of Music. She was the first holder of the College’s prestigious Benjamin Britten Fellowship, for which her project was a recording of Liszt’s Transcendental Studies; her performance of them was described by Andras Schiff as “astonishing … a real virtuoso”.
Nikolai Medtner, a pianist-composer in the mould of Rachmaninov and Scriabin, moved to Britian in the 1930’s, where he was highly esteemed, and his Sonata Romantica was premiered in Glasgow in 1931.
