All Bach Programme
Magnificat in D major, BWV 243
Sanctus in D major, BWV 238
Concerto in A major for Oboe d’amore, BWV 1055
Concerto in E major for Violin, BWV 1042
Our season ends in joyful, celebratory style with some of Bach’s most exciting choral music and concertos. In his time there was still considerable use of Latin in the Lutheran services in Leipzig. Both the D major Sanctus (a work that stands alone) and the Magnificat were composed in 1723, the latter containing four additional movements or “laudes”.
