Consone Quartet | 14 August | at St Mary le More, Wallingford

Dvorák · Two Waltzes
Haydn · String Quartet in F Major, Op. 77, No 2
Puccini · Crisantemi
Verdi · String Quartet in E minor

One full length concert at 8pm – at St Mary le More, Wallingford – tickets £16

The prize-winning Consone Quartet is dedicated to exploring Classical and Early Romantic repertoire on period instruments. Praised for their seductive sound, technical excellence and fiery enthusiasm, the quartet is rapidly establishing an international reputation; they are currently BBC New Generation Artists, broadcasting on Radio 3. The quartet gave a much-appreciated performance at St Peter’s in 2019, and we are delighted to welcome them back.

For this concert they are bringing their historically-informed insights to a wide range of music, from the classical period of Haydn to the later 19th century. Verdi’s only string quartet was written during an enforced delay in rehearsals of Aida; but if Verdi is known almost exclusively for his operas, he had studied the quartets of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven and brought his own melodic talent to that classical tradition.
