The Thames Consort brings the season to a close with a concert of Baroque choral and instrumental music.
Purcell’s verse anthem, for soloists, chorus, strings and organ, was probably written for the coronation of William and Mary in 1688. Handel’s anthem is one of four written for the coronation of King George in 1727, and Nisi Dominus is a setting of Psalm 127, written in 1707 in Rome. Bach’s Cantata BWV 17, ‘He who offers thanks praises me’, for the 14th Sunday after Trinity, is for soloists, chorus, 2 oboes, strings and continuo.
Vivaldi’s concerto is from the Op. 8 set, written for the great Dresden violinist, Pisendel.
